Wolverine defeats Wolves

Apr 13 2012

Wolverines are awesome, I have been enamored with wolverines for as long as I can remember. Wolverines are one tough animal and as the footage shows above they will take on just about anything including a bear or even a pack of wolves to either defend or steal a meal.

Yet, another reason why I love the wolverine is because in very few cases they have been know to kill caribou yes caribou. Check it out. Now granted the caribou in this story was injured previously but still that is was one tenacious little weasel (yes wolverines are weasels) to take down a animal 3 times it’s size. Wolverines are what we call opportunistic predators and will scavenge or hunt for their meals. They are also known for their ability to break into cabins and raid the food within.

In the lower 48 states wolverines are only found in extreme wilderness areas such as Northern Washington, Western Montana, and Northern and Central Idaho. There are also small populations in Wyoming and possibly Colorado. Historically they were found in California, Utah and possibly Oregon. Wolverines are found through out much of Canada and Alaska. The wolverine is also found in Europe all in Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, and Finland), and in Asia they are found in the cold boreal forests of Russia, China and Mongolia.

Moose State Maine

Apr 11 2012

Maine has a lot Moose, how many do you ask? Try between 60,000 and 90,000. That is a lot of moose running around the dense woods of Eastern New England. In fact, if that many moose were running around the state I live in(Utah), they would have to issue a state of emergency. Yes, there are moose in Utah in fact, we have a few thousand but nothing at all like the state of Maine.

This incredible number of “twig eaters” was counted by biologists by use of a helicopter. In some areas these scientist counted as many as 5-6 moose per mile square mile. That is a whole hell of a lot of moose for those keeping count. This huge of number moose insures that quite a few hunters and sportsmen will be able to bag themselves a big bull this fall during the hunt.

I am a moose-aholic I love everything about them and my hope that in one way or another I can manage a business trip or family vacation to Maine so that I can fully engulf myself in moose. I don’t know  if they have many conferences in Maine that cater to my specific profession but you never know. Regardless I hope that sometime in my lifetime I can make a pilgrimage to Maine to baptize myself in moose.

Petting a Moose

Apr 5 2012

Look I have to admit I much like the women in this video have always wanted to walk up to a moose and pet it like it were my dog, however I also know that moose are not big fans of petting.  For this reason the women in this video is pretty lucky that Bullwinkle didn’t decide to return the favor and pet this women back. One only has to YouTube “moose attack” to find out how moose tend to treat humans who care to give them a pet or get a little too close for comfort.

Congrats to this woman because for brief 5 minutes she is the next YouTube sensation.

Text and Hit a Moose

Apr 4 2012

Texting while you drive in not only stupid and dangerous but illegal in the state of Wyoming as well as other states as well.

How stupid and dangerous are you when you text and drive? So it stupid that it appears that recently in the Jackson Hole Area many moose have been hit by distracted drivers who were preoccupied with their cell phones.  What I think is scary is that this a growing trend that will continue to plague not only moose and drivers but unfortunately will eventually lead to the lose of a human life.

When it comes to answering that funny text or swerving to hit a moose in the road I will take my chances with the swerve.

Read it Here.
