A Great Job

Mar 21 2012

There are so many jobs out there where I ask myself “How can I sign-up for that job”. This clip is from is a very cool show in Norway that highlights the countries amazing array of wildlife. In this particular episode they are out tranquilizing elk (moose). The highlight if that is what you want to call it, is when the researcher checks the moose to see if she is pregnant. The other highlight is when they tranquilize a female wolf.

Fix your Headlight?

Mar 15 2012

Moose apparently know a little about car repair as this courteous moose took time out of it’s busy schedule to fix a poor drivers one headlight. I can only hope that someday that lucky driver can thank the moose for getting him out of a certain ticket.

Clear the Way

Mar 14 2012

When stopping for a quick bagel a group of skiers get a surprise visit from a snow bound moose. Deep snow is no good for anybody especially moose and when some kind human has carved a path through the 4 foot snow how could a moose not take advantage of it.  The video is pretty boring for the first minute or so so scroll to about the 1:30 mark when the moose decides to join the skiers for a snack.

Minnesota Moose Emergency

Minnesota is a state that for centuries moose have called home, and this icon of the north may be only a memory in Minnesota in the next 20 years as the population continues to plummet. Unfortunately for those wolf haters out there the wolf is not being called the main culprit, yes moose do fall prey to wolves just like they have for thousands of years, but in this case the villain is most likely disease, parasites and yes I will say it Climate Change (key dramatic music). The strange thing about the moose in Minnesota is that in other states that have moose and are on similar latitudes their moose populations are not experiencing the same population decline.

In the weird state of Utah (Trust me I know I live there) having a situation like this would be horrible, because moose who are not known to be native to the beehive state have done extremely well here in the past 100 years, and to have the population decimated like they are in Minnesota in such a short amount of time would be devastating.

Our hope is in those the scientists who are dedicating their times and talents to find out what is happening to the moose in Minnesota.
